Osteopathy

osteopathy Aix-en-Provence cranial energetic visceral

Osteopathy can help with many conditions and certain injuries. Osteopathy has a little-known preventive role; it is also used when the patient is in crisis, and therefore as an emergency, or during chronic conditions. there are different osteopathic techniques: cranial osteopathy, energetic osteopathy, visceral osteopathy, structural osteopathy…

The osteopath works holistically on the whole body and its disorders, which allows osteopathy to be used across a wide range of applications:

The osteopath treats patients from birth to adulthood in order to maintain the child’s health for healthy growth. A child’s balance can be disrupted by daily activities: carrying a school bag, a knock during sport, poor posture at a desk, wearing a dental brace.

Symptoms then appear, such as headaches, stomach aches, sleep disorders and attention problems. An osteopathic check-up once or twice a year is useful for preserving health, particularly at the start of the school year and before and during a sporting activity. Paediatric osteopathy uses very gentle techniques adapted to the child. “Cracking” techniques are never used.

Symptoms or functional signs that may lead you to consult an osteopath:

    • Headaches
    • Back pain, or pain in the upper and lower limbs
    • Sleep disorders, anxiety, nervousness
    • ENT disorders: ear infections, chronic sinusitis, blocked or overly open tear duct
    • Digestive disorders: stomach aches, colic, constipation, gastric reflux/regurgitation in infants
    • Dental problems: wearing a dental brace
    • After-effects of a fall or after surgery
    • History of fractures or sprains
    • Spinal deformity:scoliosis, kyphosis or lordosis, poor body positioning
    • Head deformity:plagiocephaly, caesarean birth, use of spatulas or forceps during delivery
    • Certain vision or hearing problems

Osteopathy has become well established in the world of sport, joining the medical staff of various international teams. During sporting activity, the body is subjected to many stresses, whatever the level, beginner or experienced, and whatever the intensity, occasional or intensive.

Muscle injuries (aches, muscle tears) or ligament injuries (sprains), as well as tendinitis or chronic pain, can result from regular or occasional sporting activity. Loss of mobility in the joints and muscles then causes a drop in your performance and your health, especially if you let things drag on.

In growing children, high-impact sports put excessive strain on the joints (judo, tennis, football, basketball…), which can lead to growth plate conditions causing disabling chronic pain that may force a complete or temporary stop to the activity. Osteopathy can also help with the consequences of falls, bad landings or repetitive movements.

Osteopathy can support athletes’ performance by working on their power and breathing, but also on joint and muscle flexibility. Finally, it may promote better recovery after exertion.

    When to consult?

    As prevention:

    • For an osteopathic check-up
    • Before joining a gym
    • Before starting a sporting activity or a new season
    • Before occasional exercise
    • To prepare for a sporting event or improve your performance

    As treatment:

    • Joint pain
    • Lumbago
    • Groin pain (pubalgia)
    • After a knock or a fall
    • After an injury: sprains, muscle tear

Headaches are a common reason for consultation. They have various causes such as stress, fatigue, periods, digestive disorders, overeating, mental overwork, poor working posture, eye and/or dental problems, and the after-effects of injuries. Teeth clenching (bruxism) and nervous tension affect the shoulder and neck muscles, also causing headaches and neuralgia.

  • Headaches: migraines, headaches, occipital (Arnold’s) neuralgia
  • Functional dizziness, tinnitus
  • Stress, anxiety, nervousness, fatigue
  • Sleep disorders: insomnia, waking at night, difficulty falling asleep
  • Neuralgia: sciatica, femoral neuralgia (cruralgia), cervicobrachial or intercostal neuralgia
  • Concentration problems
  • ENT disorders: sinusitis, ear infections, chronic rhinitis
  • Dental bite problems: bruxism (clenching, grinding of teeth), disorders of
  • Occlusion, wearing a dental brace

Visceral osteopathy addresses functional disorders linked to the organs and aims to restore their mobility. It may help to improve arterial, venous and lymphatic circulation, which may produce a neurological and physiological action that acts on the function of the organ and therefore has an effect on the whole body.
